Anna, 2015

SELECTED

Although the piece documents the struggle of one person, it manages to encapsulate the intricate and devastating effects that influence all who suffer from or have been affected by eating disorders. FEAST, Lexington Art League, Kentucky, USA :LINK

This artwork explores the complex and devastating effects of eating disorders. It is a biographical work about a young woman, Anna, who suffered from anorexia nervosa, the words taken from her personal diary. The piece is in the form of a young girl’s dress as she confessed that her “anorexia was about maintaining her childhood” – she hand stitched the pocket. The ‘Size 0’ label underlines the need to be thin. All of the text is sewn with human hair, which echos one of the symptoms of the disease, Anna’s hair loss.

Name has been changed to protect her identity.
