the shutter came down, 2021

Trivialisation of the Holocaust in the 21st century, and the use of the yellow star, which was used to denigrate, isolate, and humiliate the European Jewish population in the 1930s and 1940s, is a common occurrence for those demonstrating against coronavirus vaccines and the use of ‘health passes’. To add insult to injury many have used Hebraic lettering, the word ‘Jude’, and ‘COVID Caust’, as part of their protest.

Eliezer's journey into hell began with a yellow star, which the Nazis forced Jews to wear. Inscribed with the word Jude—"Jew" in German—the star was a symbol of Nazi persecution. It was often a mark of death, as the Germans used it to identify Jews and send them to concentration camps, where few survived. Elie Wiesel, ‘Night’, 1960

It is wrong to compare vaccines to the Holocaust because it senselessly equates those who choose not to be vaccinated to Jews in Nazi Germany who had no choice when they were subjected to racial purity laws, the yellow star, ghettoisation, property confiscation, enslavement, massacre, experimentation, and industrial gassing.
