TURNING A BLIND EYE, 2008
New Designers One Year On Award - UK
Research into gender stereotyping in media advertising has led to the conclusion that women are still portrayed as the main cleaner, shopper and cook in the home in the 21st century. When men are chosen for advertisements they may be dressed in white coats (technicians), dressed up as women, portrayed as comical individuals or are celebrities.
Process: Hand stitch, hand drawing, photographic silkscreen printing
Materials: Textile, silk threads, blind attachments, binder, pigments
